The Central West Bank Field Coordination Unit

The Central Field Coordination Unit (FCU) was set up in September 2005, where the two existing field units in Jerusalem and Ramallah were merged together with keeping two offices functioning one based in OCHA's head office in East Jerusalem and the other is based in the UN shared premises in the Ramallah district. The Central FCU monitors the humanitarian situation in East Jerusalem, Jericho District, Ramallah and the Jordan Valley.

The FCU coordinates with governors' offices, local municipalities, Palestinian Authority departments, UN agencies, international organizations and local non-governmental organizations. The OCHA FCU also coordinates with the Palestinian District Coordination Liaison Office (DCL) and the Israeli DCL, particularly on issues affecting the humanitarian situation of the Palestinian population, such as movement restrictions - caused in part by the Barrier - that affect access to medical services, and places of education and employment. It facilitates monthly local humanitarian forums in Ramallah, which bring together representatives from the Governor’s office, local municipalities, Palestinian Authority departments, UN agencies, international organizations and local NGOs.
