The OCHA Northern West Bank Coordination Unit was set up in April 2003 in Nablus city. The office, which is shared with WFP, was officially opened on 1 July 2003. The northern FCU monitors the humanitarian situation in the Nablus, Jenin, Tubas, Qalqiliya, Salfit and Tulkarm governorates of the
northern West Bank.
The FCU coordinates with other UN agencies and humanitarian organizations. It facilitates local humanitarian forums in the northern West Bank governorates, which bring together representatives from the governors' offices, local municipalities, Palestinian Authority departments, UN agencies, international organizations and local NGOs.
The OCHA FCU also coordinates with the Palestinian Civil Affairs Coordination and Cooperation Committee (CAC) and the Israeli DCL, particularly on issues affecting the humanitarian situation of the local Palestinian population, such as general movement restrictions affecting access to emergency medical services and water supplies.
